Most Young People from outside Zurich in the Canton say when asking them where to go at Weekend nights...its just Zurich.
But there is another truth, as Winterthur has an excellent nightlife with many Clubs and bars within walking distance. But outside this 2 cities it is very quiet with just a handful Clubs all over the Cantonal area. Of course there are a couple bars as well, but not that many anymore as one or two centuries ago.
For those being older than 30 or even 40 the places to go are very rare. And even once more for those which do not like being circled everywhere by hookers or Jugoslavian People ist just a handful or even sometimes just a single place to go.
The nightlife in Zürich concentrates now at the hooker area of Langstrasse even for those in the 20s which then are circled by a flood of pimps and drugdealers.
The next partytown coming up is Winterthur which has by far the better nightlife and all within walking distance. The advantage in Winterthur is, the hookers, drugdealers, pimps and other crime not yet came here and all concentrates in Zurich, what makes Winterthur the place for Swiss People going out. It will just be a matter of time until nightlife switches from Zurich away and goes to Witnerthur as the whole Setup is by far better.
In Zurich it was just all about Money within recent years what let one after another nightlife area, as example Niederdorf, disappear. In the meantime you always Need to sit into a taxi or car to get from one place to another as it is all spread around City. But in Wintherthur it concentrates all within a 1km Walking distance what makes this city perfect for those going out at nights.
With a couple exceptions about nightlife, what happened in Zurich is something you could call a tragedy, but this is what happens when money plays. Hookers, pimps, drugs and all places spread all over City what lets People run from one end to another within city. It was all concentrates in Niederdorf in earlier days, Langstrasse those days was the redlight area. But Niederdorfs nightlife Kind of disappeared. Where once you got a properous site as Niederdorf, People get attracted to life as well there and finally exactly those People which wanted to life somewhere where nightlife is existing with a Walking Zone then organized all nightlife to disappear as they are annoyed by any noises at night when they find out about they can not really sleep anymore as they wanted. It is silly, but that is the way it goes. Zurichs government was never able to manage it the way to give this City a nightlife area concentrating somewhere within walking distance and now they see what they got. It has nearly Zero ambiance in Zurich.
